#1743 closed enhancement (wontfix)

Enable WordPress custom fields

Description

One of the most powerful features of WordPress is custom fields. bbPress should not disable this for forum pages.

In the back-office, the administrator should be able to access custom field exactly the same way (s)he can access (create/modify/remove) them for WordPress pages and posts.

Custom field on "Edit page"

  • Priority changed from normal to low

Your average bbPress/forum user should probably be shielded from wp-admin. A plugin can come along and enable this to put it to use, but I don't see a reason to open this up in core quite yet.

Moving to future release.

You know, actually WordPress does the shielding pretty well for WordPress users as well.

There is a button on top right corner of Edit page and Edit post that says "Screen Options". You have to click on it to open a box with options, and then check the box for "Custom fields" to make this appear on the page.

P.S. Just to clarify, this feature is for bbPress administrators, not for forum contributors.

  • Milestone Future Release deleted
  • Resolution set to wontfix
  • Status changed from new to closed

Probably plugin territory for now. I'd much rather we have a great API for adding custom fields to the topic/reply forms than lumping things into arbitrary fields.
