#460 closed enhancement (fixed)

Ambiguous use of "tags"

Reported by: randy Owned by:

Description

In the New Topic section, there is this text: "Enter a few words (called tags) separated by spaces to help someone find your topic:" followed immediately by this text: "Allowed tags: a em strong code ul ol li blockquote."

"Tags" means two different things here. Perhaps replace "Allowed tags" with "Allowed formatting" or "Allowed HTML" or "Allowed markup"

I think it needs to be changed again, because a lot people seem to get it wrong first time (I did, took me a bit to figure it out). Maybe 'allowed html' would trigger more memories. A lot of people try to use

blockquotesome text to quoteblockquote

or similar variations on that theme to do formatting, probably influenced by the widespread bbcode which uses square brackets instead of equality signs/angular brackets.

Replying to fel64:

blockquotesome text to quoteblockquote

Obviously those blockquotes are 'blockquote' between backticks, as bbpress' ambiguous instructions could imply:

Allowed markup: a blockquote br code em strong ul ol li.

Put code in between backticks.
