I would like to have the option to hide group forums from the forum list unless the individual concerned is a member of that group.

I'd like there to be an option for forum visibility for each of the types of groups in BuddyPress, in other words I'd like To be able to individually control whether a public or a private group forum shows up in the forum list.

I second @Venutius idea, definitely want to hide Group Forums from public view on the Forums listing.

Site admins can create forums with control on how it is show. Public, Private, Hidden.

I'd like more clarification. Are you saying if I create private forum it's gonna appear in the list?

Hi @espellcaste,

I believe the issue with Group Forums is if you have a Private Group and check off the Forum during creation it creates a Private Forum associated to it. User who aren't members of that group still see the Forum in the /forums listing but really shouldn't be aware of their existence.

As @garrett-eclipse said, users should not be aware of things they cannot do. This is a general best-practice in designing software, and as applied to this case, users who are not members of a given group / forum should not be able to see those forums unless the user is an Administrator.

I consider the absence of this capability to be a functional defect rather than an enhancement.

I am just rolling out my site (​http://connexions.world) and the absence of this capability is already a problem for me.

I can see why this might be appealing.

The connections between bbPress's private/hidden forums and BuddyPress are pretty loose, and not difficult for a developer to extend and customize.

I'm happy to help someone work on this. Putting into Future Release for now.
