@alexvorn2, Last time we discussed this bbPress would be a repo under the WordPress Orginization (https://github.com/wordpress) and the bbPress repo would only operate as a mirror just like the WordPress repo.
WordPress, Git-ified. Synced via SVN every 15 minutes, including branches and tags! This repository is just a mirror of the WordPress subversion repository. Please do not send pull requests. Submit patches to http://core.trac.wordpress.org/ instead.

Not really, it shouldn't make much of a difference.
I can find some links to help you setup your local environment so that you can add patches here on trac just as easily as adding a patch to a GitHub project if you like.
If so, what platform are you using? Windows or Mac?

Cool... I'll dig around and find some docs to step you through it all.
Do you use a particular editor/IDE? (Notepad++, Sublime Text, Netbeans etc)

Update. The WordPress.org systems team is making progress on this. There will be updates here in coming weeks.
