This definitely needs to be considered for bbP .org. For a few reasons.
Despite the big ass notice we have up shoveling people to WordPress.org for plugins, it confuses the hell out of people and some just don't understand why they are leaving bbPress.org when the plugins are right in front of them.
Secondly holy spam batman! All those plugins have been a spam stomping ground the last 6 months, presumably because no one has been paying attention or doing any moderating. It's pretty bad.
Ideally it would be nice to just close new comments or some sort of heavy default moderation and then archive them completely. Then do a better job archiving the 1.x plugins and pushing people to WP.org for 2.x.
