#1549 closed enhancement (wontfix)

New post status for user deleted topics

Reported by: anointed's profile anointed Owned by:
Milestone: Priority: normal
Severity: minor Version: 2.0
Component: General - Administration Keywords:

When a user deletes his/her own topic from the forums, it would be nice to have the post change status to something like 'removed-by-user' vs. actually throwing it into the recycle bin.

The reason is quite simple:

Having run a few rather large forums over the years, there have been a couple of instances where I have received subpoenas from DHS to immediately provide them with the relevant user information/posts.

Having the ability for a user to remove their posts is important, as I receive those requests all the time. Having the status of a user removed post being the same as one deleted via an admin makes organization difficult to say the least.

I'm not saying this is something that shouldn't be considered, but this seems like plugin territory. A plugin could easily add a custom post status, and on deletion, send it to a 'removed-by-user' status. It could then add a 'Removed by User' link next to the All/Published/Trash filtering links for Topics/Replys in the admin, while also using some css to highlight them on the front end.

Agreed on plugin territory. Recreating the "trash" status is also rather difficult to do as the WordPress post-status API isn't completely fleshed out.

Closing as wontfix.
